Not quite spring

Good Morning and Happy Sunday! Looking outside and feeling the temperatures this last week, the average person would say that spring has arrived in Northern Colorado. I've been here too long to do that. Temps in the sixties is highly unusual for February, and I am still waiting for the spring break snowstorm in mid-March. I will admit, it felt great to wear a tank top yesterday and enjoy the sun.

What have we been up to lately? Serra had a busy week of helping friends with essays and studying for midterms. While she loves her friends, she also has desperately needed some peace and quiet. She is getting that this week as spring break is here and everyone has gone home. I foresee a week of sleeping, movies and Minecraft for her. Hopefully she will enjoy the quiet and not get too lonely by the end of it.

Amanda has one more week to go before her spring break kicks in. She is finally taking more credit on the work she is doing as her group's dynamics have not changed as we had hoped. It's only going to get worse as baseball season ramps up and one member checks out even more than previously. She did get some validation on the project as a meeting with a surgeon went very well. He understood and applauded what they are doing. The program director still doesn't have it figured out.

Crafts have been all over the place this past week. Spinning, a crochet project for PieceWork, teaching, knitting and kumihimo have been taking place.

This is my marudai and tamas with a basic sixteen strand spiral braid that will become curtain ties.

The Loopy Ewe was hopping on Saturday! I started a new learn to knit class and picked up the latest Little Squirrel sock set.

The owner of Gussie Bag Company came in with fabulous bags that Kristine is now going to carry. Through the course of random conversation, Jay, the owner, and I found out that we ran in the same cake decorating circles a couple of regenerations ago. It was absolutely wild and shows that you can never keep creative people down, we simply change mediums!

Speaking of changing mediums, my wild and crazy Saturday night included making homemade pasta for the first time.

Since it's just me, I made a half batch, and it was much simpler than expected! The biggest thing, theme of my life, is having patience for each of the steps. The dough has to rest in between mixing, shaping and cutting. For next time I think I will roll it a little bit thinner before slicing. I cooked some up with my usual shrimp and lemon butter sauce and have to say it was totally worth it. Serra wants to make ravioli this summer.

As for me, it was a busy week. Like Serra, I am enjoying the quiet here and more often than not embracing the silence. Not something I ever expected myself to be able to do. Most people turn the calendar to January and say, "new year, new me", this time around it's March and it's "new month, new me". It's time to get back to my basics with going to the gym and finding some inspiration to dress the looms. It has definitely been a winter of being planted as a seed. The spring will come, and it will be time to bloom.

Next week! Serra will enjoy the quiet and her random recordings of "a medieval peasant documenting an apocalypse" over break. Amanda is hoping Friday gets here quickly so she can enjoy some down time. I get a little bit of everything this week, ankle pt, lessons and classes to teach and as always more craft. Breathe, smile, be, Love, find what brings you peace, and I'll be back next week :)
