Good Morning and Happy Sunday! I am slow this morning after an amazing night's sleep. Somehow July has graced my corner of the Fort with May's weather. Rain and cooler nights have made sleep glorious. Serra is snuggled under her heavy weighted blanket and oblivious to everything as she catches up from another 48-hour hangout.
What did we do this week? Amanda is attending all of the surgeries that she can and going out with the other students in the program. The Microsoft glitch affected the hospital she is at, and they got to a late start on Friday. Lots of limbs and a day in Pediatrics where she got to see her number one surgery, a cochlear implantation.
Serra has been a wonderful nurse. This week she has taken care of various things around the house, gotten me to appointments and been a great cheerleader. She is also getting excited about college which I love. She has her room assignment and a good bit of packing done.
A slightly slower week for me with work as it's one of those in-between spaces. Next week changes that as I have a two-day shoot to prep for and attend. I also have a lesson Thursday and class to teach on Saturday. Hopefully classes will pick up again in the fall as everyone will be back from summer vacations. Trick now is figuring out what to teach!
Crafts saw time with my knitting bag as I have been working on the socks with what I had left from the March Little Squirrel Yarn. A couple of hexies joined the pile and I finally got a chance to try out my new little Gilmore Curl!
He fits perfectly in one of Amanda's backpacks from RPI that never got used.
I had a bit of trouble getting him strung up as he has built-in lease sticks that I have never used before. Hoping to figure that out on the next go. I used black 8/2 cotton and Little Squirrel (again!) for the pick-up strands.
And there's one repeat of the pattern! As for the color scheme, if you know you know. I read it back in March and have yet to pick up another book since. The band itself is just under an inch wide. As for what it will become, I don't know. It is my practice to keep the first piece off of every loom so we'll see what happens with it. I have an idea for a gift for Serra next which puts this one on deadline to finish.
As for me, it has been a bouncy castle of a week of good emotions and I feel solid again. I can do this, all the things and enjoy it along the way. Got to thinking about ways I have changed and something I have been able to do is let go. Yes, I am still type A and need to know what is going on. What I'm talking about is society's expectations. That is what I have let go of. My ankle is healing. Surgeon took me off non-weight bearing status and physical therapist got me moving. I can make it up and down the stairs and all around without crutches so long as I have my boot on. That first step earlier this week was a doozy! Scary and painful yet here I am, making progress. I still have a long way to go, and I don't just mean the ankle. First steps are always scary but if you don't take them, what will you miss out on?
This week! More of the same for Amanda, surgeries, homework, and going out. Friday nights have become the going out night and I'm told today will be a search for tacos. Serra has to make do with Mom instead of her friend as they are going on a family trip. She is going to join me at the photo shoot and hopeful get caught up on sleep. Me? More of everything. Breathe, smile, grow, be, Love, take that first step, and I'll be back next week :)
